Here we are talking about a 2,807 mile trek from Clovis,CA out to Ashburn, VA in a high-performance GMC Pense Truck, getting close to a Lambo-like MPG ~10-12 MPG.
As I am in the early stages of planning the route, I am open to suggestions as to what could entertain a 5-year old on a trip like ours without resenting her father for the rest of her life :). On day 1, I am thinking the Grand Canyon, but past that, short of visiting the NASCAR or Country Music museum in Nashville, I am pretty lost (and open to suggestions).
Our route is detailed below; I am thinking two hard core 600-mile days, followed by a two medium distance 400-mile trips, closing out with a sub 250-mile 'sprint' from Roanoke to Ashburn should be the ticket.
That and an iPad loaded up to the teeth with Disndey-motive games should keep the pumpkin occupied on this exciting trip.
PS: Just a point of clarification: I am only taking Alexa on our little 'road trip'; Aimee and Ellie will fly, of course, with our cats. We will also have Gina's daughter Amanda help us out for the first three weeks and she will fly with Aimee from Fresno.
